L Is For Listen

Next time you are doing a Mindful practice, or meditation, don’t forget to use ALL your senses.

Why not try doing a meditation where you simply listen to what is going on around you? You can be somewhere noisy, or somewhere quiet to try this – each will have it’s own sounds that can be picked up when you listen really carefully, and focus on the noises that are going on around you.

I recently went for my first Gong Bath. I really enjoyed the experience, and found it really relaxing. But to begin with I was really challenged by that form of meditation.  I tried to do my usual mindful focus on the sound around me, but the Gong sounded on so many different frequencies that I found it impossible to turn my attention to just one sound – this was not the place to be mindful!

It’s amazing what sounds you notice when you make a point of listening for them; The buzz of the fridge freezer, the whirr of the laptop fan, and the purr of the car two roads down – these are all sounds that you can focus on… It doesn’t have to be the wind in the trees to be a meaningful, Mindful experience – see how you get on.

Ahaha – Claire, a long bath is meditation and relaxation to sound. Everyone lies on the floor while the facilitator plays the gong.
I’d recommend trying it if you ever get the chance
