Lots of people I meet tell me that they can’t meditate – they want me to give them the magic answer of how to enter that meditative state where they can stop their minds from wandering, and fully focus on the moment.

I’m sorry to tell you that there isn’t one.

Like any skill it grows with practice, and comes more naturally and easily to some people than it does to others.

My advice is simply to persevere. To keep practicing until one day it feels natural and happens without giving it a second thought (remember when you learnt to drive?). You might find meditating in some places easier than others. You might find being a part of a group more comfortable than being on your own. You might even find it an easier process at some times of the day compared to others… but unless you give it a go you won’t know.
